Founded in 1975 by Jon Washburn, the Willan
Choir currently under the directorship
of Patricia Plumley at the Broadway Campus of VCC.
The choir
adopted its name in 1980 honouring the birth centenary of renowned
Canadian composer Healey Willan, and the ensemble continues
to thrive, upholding its reputation for friendliness, good spirit
and heartfelt music making.
Recent performance highlights would
include the performance of Faure's Requiem, along with the VCC Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers and Gerald van Wyck on organ in April 2009, as well as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in D Minor in December 2008. Coming up in the 2009/2010 season, the choir will be working on the Verdi Requiem, to be performed in the spring with the West Coast Symphony Orchestra.
The Willan Choir meets on Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 10:00
PM in the VCC Broadway Campus Auditorium, with at least one
performance at the end of each term.
If you are interested in joining the choir,
you may attend the first rehearsal to see if it's to your liking,
then register the following week. The first rehearsal for the
September - December term will be on Tuesday, September 15, 2009.
Registration will begin at 6:45 PM. A School of Music representative
will be at the first two rehearsals to assist with registration.
